Dr. Susan Block to present the Bonobo Way at AASECT 2016

AASECT_DrSusanBlock_Bonobo

Los Angeles, California: June 1, 2016 — Susan M. Block, Ph.D., a.k.a., “Dr. Suzy,” internationally renowned sexologist and best-selling author of The Bonobo Way: The Evolution of Peace through Pleasure (Gardner & Daughters Publishers), will present “The Bonobo Way: An Alternative Great Ape Paradigm for Human Sexuality” at the 48th Annual Conference of The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors & Therapists (AASECT), to be held June 8-12 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“I look forward to sharing this very special portion of the ‘Bonobo Sutra’ with my fellow sex educators and therapists,” says Dr. Block who has been presenting various aspects of the Bonobo Way, locally and abroad, at different academic and lifestyle conferences over the past few months, including the keynote address to the world’s first “ecosexuality” symposium in an academic institution, convened at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez by UPRM Humanities Professor SerenaGaia Anderlini D’Onofrio. She also gave a talk on nonmonogamy among bonobos at the 5th International Conference on Monogamy & Nonmonogamy at UC Berkeley; and she just delivered a rousing presentation at DomCon LA 2016 on bonobos as the “Most FemDom Apes on Earth.”

Next, on Saturday, June 11, she will speak at AASECT 2016 where “Putting the Pieces Together: Inclusivity in Practice” will be the conference theme. “A vital piece of the human sexuality puzzle is our interconnected Great Ape nature,” says Block, an AASECT member since 2005. “Bonobos are the most inclusive apes on Earth. They love to share food and sex with friends and strangers. This is deeply linked to another “piece” of the puzzle that bonobos “put together”: peace through pleasure. Bonobos are the only great apes who have never been seen killing each other. We humans can learn a lot from our bonobo cousins about our own sexual diversity, erotic inclusivity, gender equality and inherent potential for harmony. As sex therapists, we can help our clients to release their ‘inner bonobos’ consensually, relatively safely and enjoyably. And speaking of joy, I am overjoyed to return to Puerto Rico, the ecosexual ‘Island of Enchantment’ and a wonderful place to learn about love.”

A consistent message in all of Block’s Bonobo Way talks is the critical importance of saving the highly endangered wild bonobos from imminent extinction, and she encourages her audiences to “adopt a bonobo” with Lola ya Bonobo or the Bonobo Conservation Initiative, among others. “Bonobo conservation is integral to the Bonobo Way,” says Block. “If we lose the bonobos, then we lose a key to understanding human sexuality that we can never find again.”

AASECT 2016 will be held June 8-12, 2016 at the Condado Plaza Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico. “The Bonobo Way: An Alternative Great Ape Paradigm for Human Sexuality” is scheduled for 4:15-5:45 pm on June 11, 2016. For information about the Bonobo Way at AASECT 2016 or to arrange an interview with Dr. Susan Block, please call 626-461-5950.

Dr. Susan Block’s Bonobo Way BOUND for DOMCON LA 2016

DomConLA2016_DrSusanBlock_BonoboWay

Los Angeles, California: May 11, 2016 — Susan M. Block, Ph.D., a.k.a., “Dr. Suzy,” internationally renowned sexologist and best-selling author of The Bonobo Way: The Evolution of Peace through Pleasure (Gardner & Daughters Publishers), will present “The Bonobo Way: A New FemDom Paradigm for Humanity” at DOMCON LA 2016.

“I look forward to bringing the ‘good news’ about the primal female empowerment of the Bonobo Way to the fabulous FemDoms of DomCon and others attending this exciting, educational convention founded by veteran BDSM powerhouse Mistress Cyan,” says Dr. Block.

Inspired by the real bonobo apes, Block will present the Bonobo Way as a new paradigm for humanity in terms of sex, war, peace, community and the balance of gender power. “For decades, male apologists and arms dealers have used the patriarchal “killer ape” model to explain and excuse male-dominated abuse, murder and war,” says Block. “Now we’re just discovering our kissing cousins, the bonobos, who are at least as close to humans as common chimpanzees are. Yet bonobos have never been seen killing each other. Instead, they utilize female empowerment, sexual play, the sharing of resources and an intriguing kind of ‘Bonobo BDSM’ to make peace through pleasure, diffusing violent tensions before they descend into murder, war or the chimp equivalent of a Trump rally. How do bonobos do this, and can we humans learn to ‘make like bonobos (not baboons)’ and truly empower our females? Can we live in FemDom harmony with each other and the Earth? At this especially turbulent point in human history, it’s worth a try.”

It’s also more than “worth a try” to save the highly endangered wild bonobo from extinction. “Bonobo conservation is integral to the Bonobo Way,” says Block. “If we lose the bonobos, then we lose a key to female empowerment that we can never find again.”

In the past few weeks, Block has given talks on various aspects of The Bonobo Way at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, delivering the keynote to the world’s first Ecosexuality Symposium at an academic institution, and at UC Berkeley for the 5th Conference on Monogamy & Nonmonogamy. On June 11, she will present The Bonobo Way at AASECT (The American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors & Therapists) 48th Annual Conference.

Dr. Block’s DomCon presentation will focus on “Bonobo Female Empowerment” and “Bonobo BDSM,” and will also include live “book-spankings,” as well as the usual book-signings. Block wrote the definitions of “erotic spanking,” “sexual fetishes” and “cuckolding,” among others, for the Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of Human Sexuality, and her Bonobo Way Book-Spankings are renowned.

DomCon LA 2016 will be held May 18-22 at the LAX Airport Hilton. Get tickets here. The Bonobo Way: A New FemDom Paradigm for Humanity is scheduled for 4:30 pm on May 21, 2016. Attending the Red-Carpet Opening Ceremonies and Fetish Ball, as well as her own presentation, Dr. Block will be wearing original latex designer dresses by Abigail Greydanus of Abigail Greydanus Latex Fashions and Reneé Masoomian of BabyLove’s Latex

Dr. Susan Block to give “BONOBO WAY” Keynote at UPRM Ecosexuality Symposium

9ff54887-3914-4610-a8b7-6dd9cb01c0b9

For Immediate Release: Contact: David Rossi I Phone: 626.461.5950 I Email: [email protected]

Los Angeles, California: January 6, 2016 — Susan M. Block, Ph.D., a.k.a., “Dr. Suzy,” internationally renowned sexologist and best-selling author of The Bonobo Way: The Evolution of Peace through Pleasure (Gardner & Daughters Publishers), will deliver the keynote address for Practices of Ecosexuality, the First Symposium on Ecosexuality in the Caribbean, to be held on-campus at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM).

Block’s keynote, “The Bonobo Way: An Ecosexual Paradigm for Humanity,” poses the question, “Can we learn to make ‘peace through pleasure’ from our Great Ape cousins?” Inspired by the real bonobos (pan paniscus), it presents these fascinating, close genetic cousins of ours as a new primate model for humanity in terms of sexuality, war, peace, gender equality, community and “ecosexuality.”

“The ‘killer ape’ paradigm, based on our better-known relatives, the competitive, male-dominant common chimpanzees, has long been used by anthropologists and arms dealers to explain and excuse human violence, rape and war,” says Block. “Bonobo apes are at least as close to humans as common chimps, but rarely rape and never kill each other. Instead, they utilize consensual sexual activity, the sharing of resources, female empowerment, recreational play, hedonic kindness, ecosexual intelligence and lots of hugs to diffuse violent tension before it descends into murder. Can we humans learn to ‘make like bonobos (not baboons)’ and live in harmony with each other and the Earth? At this turbulent point in human history, it’s worth a try. Perhaps, if we study these amazing creatures—as well as save them from the seemingly imminent extinction that humanity’s bad habits have forced upon them—we can crack the bonobo code of ecosexual peace through pleasure.”

Other Ecosexuality Symposium speakers include UPRM Professor Serena Anderlini-D’Onofrio, Ph.D. and Lindsay Hagamen, co-editors of Ecosexuality: When Nature Inspires the Arts of Love, the award-winning collection that brings together the voices of 30 leaders of the ecosexual movement; Marsha Scarbrough, author of Honey in the River: Shadow, Sex and West African Spirituality; Music Director Mariá Virginia Sánchez Cintrón; award-winning author and UPRM Professor Linda M. Rodriguez Guglielmoni, Ph.D.; “Conscious Communication” Master Trainer Taber Shadburne, M.A.; Agadilla Poet Dr. Anya Trahan; ecosexual poet and activist Karen Hery; Puppetry artists Linda and Camille and more, along with a screening of Drs. Annie Sprinkle’s and Beth Stephens’ documentary, Good-bye Gauley Mountain: An Ecosexual Love Story.

Block’s Bonobo Way Keynote is scheduled for 10:45 – 11:45 AM on January 28, 2016, at UPRM’s Teatro Figueroa Chapel, the first event of the Symposium. She will also conduct a workshop on January 29, 3:30 – 4:15 PM, entitled, “Release Your Inner Bonobo: A Different Kind of 12-Step Program,” which weaves stories, studies, theories and fantasies into possibilities and a practical path of action that enables a very personal “Ecosexual RƎVO˩ution,” deepening “ecosexual intelligence” and “bonobo awareness” of our global interconnectivity through empathy, eroticism and play.
